From Visitor Visa to English Language Student Visa — Successfully Approved After PPI

Ms H originally travelled to New Zealand on a valid visitor visa. During her stay, she experienced the local English-speaking environment and recognised that improving her English would support her future personal and professional development. After carefully considering her circumstances, she decided to undertake formal English language study in New Zealand and applied for an English Language Student Visa. During the assessment process, Immigration New Zealand issued a Potentially Prejudicial Information letter, raising concerns about the application and requiring further clarification and supporting evidence. Our team carefully reviewed the concerns raised by the immigration officer and prepared a structured response. We provided detailed evidence relating to Ms H’s personal history, previous experience, financial circumstances, family and social connections in China, as well as documents demonstrating the genuineness and reasonableness of her proposed study plan. We also clearly explained why she decided to study English after arriving in New Zealand, how the programme matched her actual language needs, and how the course would benefit her future development. The response focused on consistency, credibility and documentary evidence. Rather than relying only on general explanations, we submitted supporting documents that directly addressed the immigration officer’s concerns. Following assessment of the additional information, Immigration New Zealand accepted the explanation and approved Ms H’s English Language Student Visa. This case demonstrates that receiving a PPI does not automatically mean an application will be declined. A clear explanation, reliable supporting evidence and a response that directly addresses each concern can significantly strengthen an application.
